A note on the airport name
Palm Beach International Airport was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The FAA and ICAO identifiers changed to DJT and KDJT on 9 July 2026, and the IATA code changed to DJT on 18 August 2026. Ownership, governance and operations did not change. Many operators and systems still refer to the field as PBI, and we answer to either.
What South Florida does to an aircraft
Salt is the whole story. An aircraft based within a few miles of the Atlantic lives in a corrosive atmosphere every day it sits outside. Salt does not wait for weather. It settles, it holds moisture against metal, and it works into seams, fasteners and gear bays. Cleaning frequency here is not cosmetic, it is corrosion control, and the FAA has published guidance on that relationship for decades.
Sun does the rest. UV exposure in South Florida is relentless and it is hard on finish, on de-ice boots, on window seals and on cabin materials near the windows. Protection is not a luxury add-on at this latitude.
Then there is the rain and the growth season. Afternoon storms, pollen, and organic fallout mean an aircraft that looked finished on Tuesday does not on Thursday. Interval matters more here than almost anywhere else we work.
