Aircraft disinfection and disinsection
Disinfection and disinsection are not the same word and not the same service. Disinfection addresses pathogens on cabin surfaces. Disinsection is insect and vector control, required on certain international routes and governed by public health regulation. We perform both, and we do not use the words interchangeably.
Detail
Disinfection
Cabin surface disinfection performed with products appropriate to the materials they touch, which is the part most often gotten wrong. A hospital grade disinfectant that ruins a leather finish has solved one problem and created another. Method follows the published business aviation guidance on cleaning and disinfection.
Disinsection
Aircraft operating on certain international routes are subject to disinsection requirements. It is a regulatory service with a defined method, and it is not something a general cleaning crew should be improvising.

Common questions
Answers before you ask
What is the difference between disinfection and disinsection?
Disinfection addresses pathogens on surfaces. Disinsection is insect and vector control required on certain international routes and governed by public health regulation. They are frequently confused, including by companies that offer them.
Will disinfectant damage a cabin interior?
It can. Many effective disinfectants are hard on leather, wool and veneer. The work is in selecting products that are effective and appropriate to the material they touch.
