What Philadelphia does to an aircraft

Winter, first. De-icing fluid, road salt and freeze-thaw cycling from November through March. Glycol residue is alkaline, it does not evaporate off a finish, and it sits in seams and along the belly until something removes it. De-ice boots take the worst of it and fail early when they are cleaned like paint.

The industrial load is real. PHL sits in one of the more heavily industrial corridors on the east coast, with refining and port activity nearby. Hydrocarbon and particulate fallout on horizontal surfaces is heavier here than at a suburban business aviation field.

The Delaware River is right there. Brackish water and marine air add a corrosion component people do not associate with a Philadelphia field.

And it is a hub. Jet exhaust deposition on this ramp is materially higher than on a GA field, which is a dwell time and chemistry problem rather than a pressure problem.

How we work at Philadelphia

PHL is a security-controlled commercial field, so badging, escort and ramp access are stricter than at a business aviation airport and movement around your aircraft is heavier and less predictable. Our team members carry the required identification and work to the facility's procedures.

Philadelphia is covered from our Lehigh Valley base rather than by a crew at the field, so scheduled work is planned rather than same day. Full interior and exterior work is scheduled overnight.

Nearby fields we also cover

  • Lehigh Valley International (ABE), roughly 55 miles, our staffed base.
  • Teterboro (TEB) and Westchester County (HPN).
  • Wilmington (ILG) and Atlantic City International (ACY).

Common questions

Philadelphia, PA, answered

Do you provide aircraft detailing at Philadelphia International Airport?

Yes. Interior and exterior detailing, brightwork, de-ice boot service, paint protection, disinfection, quick turns and AOG response, covered from our Lehigh Valley base.

Is a commercial hub harder on an aircraft finish than a GA field?

Yes. Jet exhaust deposition is materially higher, and at Philadelphia specifically the surrounding industrial corridor and the Delaware River add hydrocarbon fallout and a marine corrosion component on top of it.

Can you work overnight at PHL?

Yes, and that is when full interior and exterior work is scheduled.
