What Central Florida does to an aircraft
Lovebugs are not a joke and every Florida operator knows it. Twice a year, in roughly May and September, lovebug flights blanket Central Florida for weeks. The remains are acidic, and left on a finish in Florida sun they will etch through clear coat and into paint. This is one of the few situations in aircraft care where days matter rather than weeks, and it is the single most common cause of avoidable paint damage on aircraft based here.
Afternoon storms are a daily event for half the year. Central Florida gets more thunderstorm days than anywhere else in the country. That means water on the aircraft most summer afternoons, landing on surfaces that are already carrying pollen and particulate, then drying in the sun. It is a bonding cycle, and it repeats.
Pollen season is heavy and long. Oak and pine pollen through the spring lands on every horizontal surface and is acidic enough to matter.
UV without a break. No winter means no rest for the finish, the boots, the seals or the interior materials near the windows.
